All Eyes On Yass Coalition Calls Out Billionaire Influence in Pittsburgh Elections

“It’s no surprise to see speculation that Yass may spend in Pittsburgh’s mayoral race when billionaires have a history of pouring millions into our city.”

PITTSBURGH – PA’s richest man, Jeff Yass, has a history of meddling in Pittsburgh elections, including pouring millions into an unsuccessful effort to defeat Representative Summer Lee and spending against County Executive Sara Innamorato through Save Allegheny County Action and Middle Path Action Fund. Now, as Yass and his far-right network continue using their billions to shape Pennsylvania politics, Pittsburgh voters must once again reject the billionaire agenda at the ballot box.

Miracle Jones, Director of Advocacy and Policy at 1Hood and member of the All Eyes On Yass campaign, issued the following statement:

"For three years, we’ve been warning people about Jeff Yass and his billionaire buddies trying to buy our elections. It’s no surprise to see speculation that Yass may spend in Pittsburgh’s mayoral race when billionaires have a history of pouring millions into our city in the hopes of installing politicians who care more about lining the pockets of their donors than whether or not the people of this city can afford to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

“These billionaires aren’t here to make our lives better – they’re here to hoard more wealth by striping away our healthcare and defunding our schools. Yass and his far-right network have spent millions rigging the system against working people and whether or not his name appears overtly in this race, the reality is clear: Republican billionaires like Yass are actively shaping our elections, and Pittsburgh is not immune. We deserve better than having to guess whether or not our candidates actually have the peoples’ best interests at heart.

“That's why the All Eyes on Yass campaign launched the Healthy Democracy Pledge, calling on all elected officials to reject Yass's money and his profiteering agenda. We call on all Pittsburgh elected officials to sign this pledge and stand against billionaires undermining our quality of life.”
